What is Watermarking?
Watermarking is the practice of embedding a visible or invisible identifier — logo, fingerprint, or unique code — into digital media so that ownership can be proven and unauthorized copies can be traced. Visible watermarks deter casual copying; invisible (forensic) watermarks survive cropping, re-encoding, and screen-recording, allowing leaks to be attributed to a specific recipient or distribution channel. Watermarking is widely used in publishing, film, photography, and pre-release content distribution to support rapid attribution and takedown.
